## Summary

Nu Skin Enterprises is a Provo-based personal-care and nutrition company that sells through a
worldwide direct-selling force of independent Brand Affiliates. It is the largest by revenue of the Utah
direct sellers whose SEC filings this corpus carries, an anchor of the state's
[direct-selling cluster](utah-direct-selling-industry.md), and — on the evidence of its own
filings — a business in sustained contraction. (Nature's Sunshine and LifeVantage are also
Utah-headquartered registrants; neither has been read here, so treat "largest" as bounded by what has
been ingested.)

The [FY2025 Form 10-K](nu-skin-10k-fy2025.md) reports revenue of $1.49 billion, down 14% in a year
and down roughly a quarter over two, with Customers down 10%, Paid Affiliates down 11% and Sales
Leaders down 19%. The company reported net income of $160.2 million for 2025, but that number comes
from selling a business — a pre-tax gain of about $176.2 million on the January 2025 sale of Mavely —
not from operations.

Alongside the core business Nu Skin runs **Rhyz**, a strategic investment arm formed in 2018 that now
holds manufacturing and technology companies and generated $223.6 million, or 15% of 2025 reported
revenue — a figure the filing states **excluding** Rhyz's sales to the core Nu Skin business, so it
measures outside revenue rather than the segment's total activity. Rhyz is where Nu Skin's Utah
*industrial* footprint sits: manufacturing plants in Provo, Draper and West Valley City.

## Impact

Nu Skin's largest durable effect on Utah is structural rather than product-level. It proved, from
Provo in the 1980s and 1990s, that a Utah company could build a global consumer-products distribution
network. The claim usually made next — that the executives, capital and sales-force know-how it produced
seeded the rest of the cluster — is the standard account and is not sourced in this corpus; the founder
and executive genealogy nobody here has traced is exactly what would test it, and Nature's Sunshine
predates Nu Skin in Utah by twelve years. When the
[Gardner Institute](gardner-utah-direct-selling-analysis-2022.md) reports that Utah-headquartered
companies supply over 10% of U.S. direct selling while Utah consumers account for 1.2% of its retail
sales, Nu Skin is a large part of the reason that asymmetry exists.

The company also carries the cluster's clearest regulatory history. In 1997 the United States
obtained a [$1.5 million civil penalty and a permanent injunction](ftc-nu-skin-consent-decree-1997.md)
against Nu Skin International in the District of Utah for violating a 1994 FTC order — the FTC
alleged the company lacked required substantiation for body-fat and muscle claims made by it and its
distributors. Be precise about what that establishes: the decree was entered "without adjudication of any
issue of fact or law", the penalty went to the Treasury rather than to buyers, and no consumer redress was
ordered — so it documents an unsubstantiated-claims violation of a standing order, not a measured harm to
consumers. What it does show is the structural problem the FTC named across the industry again in
[2020](ftc-mlm-covid-warning-letters-2020.md): claims travel through a sales force faster than a company
monitors them, and the company is answerable for them either way.

What the record does not support is either the promotional or the dismissive reading. Nu Skin is a
real manufacturer and employer with in-house research and Utah plants; it is also a company whose
sales force shrinks every year and whose participants' earnings it does not report.

**Bet:** A branded personal-care and nutrition portfolio, sold by an incentivized network of
independent affiliates and increasingly backed by owned manufacturing, can hold global consumer
demand that ordinary retail distribution would not reach.

## Utah Context

Item 2 of the FY2025 10-K puts nearly every function except China operations in Utah County and the
Salt Lake Valley: principal administrative offices at the Provo headquarters, principal distribution
facilities in Provo, a research and development center in Provo, and Rhyz manufacturing plants in
Provo, Draper and West Valley City. Nu Skin owns these properties except the Provo and West Valley
City manufacturing facilities, which it leases.

Employment is smaller than the revenue suggests, because the sales force is not employed: about 2,800
full- and part-time employees worldwide, plus roughly 5,800 sales employees in Mainland China counted
separately. The 129,311 Paid Affiliates who earned compensation in the fourth quarter of 2025 are
independent contractors, not employees, and the filing reports no distribution of what they earned.

Nu Skin is the reason Provo, rather than Salt Lake City, is the center of gravity for Utah direct
selling: doTERRA in Pleasant Grove, Modere in Springville, Tranont in Lehi, Young Living elsewhere in
Utah County and others sit within a half-hour of its headquarters, drawing on the same pool of compensation-plan
designers, compliance staff, distribution operators and sales leadership.

## What They Need Now

**Current Utah demand is thin, and that is the finding.** Read on 2026-08-11, Nu Skin's own Workday board
listed only physical-security work in Utah — a PRN security officer and a global security operations
center operator, both at the Provo campus — with the rest of a short worldwide board in commercial,
marketing and support roles across Asia, Europe, Latin America and Australia. A company shedding a fifth
of its sales leaders in a year is not staffing up in its home market, and job-seekers should calibrate
accordingly rather than reading the company's scale as hiring capacity.

That reading is a dated observation, not a cited figure, and this page deliberately states no counts from
it. The board is a Workday instance that returns its listings only to a POST request, so this
repository's fetcher cannot capture it and no snapshot exists to quote — and under this wiki's evidence
rule, a figure that cannot be quoted from a captured source is not a figure to assert. Anyone who needs
counts should query the board and say when they did.

The durable Utah role families, when Nu Skin does hire, follow from the properties: product
formulation and research at the Provo R&D center, manufacturing and quality operations at the Rhyz
plants in Provo, Draper and West Valley City, distribution operations at the Provo warehouse, and the
software and data work behind a global affiliate commerce platform. `Roles:` is deliberately absent
from this page's metadata because asserting those families now would point matchers at demand the
board does not show.

## Open Questions

- What do Nu Skin's Brand Affiliates actually earn? The company publishes sales-force *counts* in its
10-K but no earnings distribution there; its own U.S. compensation summary needs to be captured and
  compared with [doTERRA's disclosure](doterra-earnings-disclosure-2026.md).
- How much of the ~2,800-employee worldwide headcount is in Utah? The filing does not break out
employment by state, and no Utah-specific figure has been sourced.
- Is the multi-year revenue decline a structural change in direct selling, a China-specific effect, or
competition from affiliate and creator commerce — the channel Nu Skin was in when it owned Mavely
  and exited by selling it?
- Does the Rhyz manufacturing business make Nu Skin's Utah footprint more durable than its sales force?
The $223.6 million excludes sales to the core business by the filing's own terms, so the unanswered
question is the size of that internal supply — which would show how much of the Utah plants' output
depends on a shrinking sales force rather than on outside customers.
- What became of the 1997 consent decree's obligations after the corporate reorganizations between Nu
Skin International, Inc. and today's Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc.? The decree binds "successors and
assigns," and no source traced here follows that thread.
- Does the company still hold the founder-era Utah civic role at anything like its former scale? The
Provo campus is documented in the 10-K, but the Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation and Steven J. Lund's
chairmanship are named here from general knowledge rather than from any source in this corpus, and both
need a document before this page asserts anything about them.
- Did Nu Skin in fact seed the cluster? The spin-out account is repeated everywhere and sourced nowhere
here; a documented executive genealogy through Young Living (1993), USANA (1992), doTERRA (2008) and
the 2010s cohort would settle it, as would evidence about Nature's Sunshine, which predates Nu Skin.
